There is a thing that left me quite perlplexed about this episode and it's about Akagi. If anyone would discover that she/he is the personification of a WWII ship they would all go see the story of the ship itself, especially her fate. Now add a somewhat feeling of predestination and that some event are bound to happen again, would'nt you study your death to every extent and do all you could do to take precautions to avoid and change your fate? Why Akagi didn't especially after that talk with nagato And the quite vivid nightmare? I mean you died there anyone would be somewhat worried especially if you believe in destiny repeating itself or following a determined course.
Also to everyone who were fighting during the MI event did you remember Akagi, Kaga, Hiryuu and Soryuu quote's? They knew what happened quite well and they all wanted to change their fate, it was like they had another chance and they would do their best to not waste it. Here they seem kinda unaware about what happened at midway.
The other thing I found strange and somewhat illogical is the battle, they go there to face enemy carrier group and destroy it and they also had proof of very high naval activity in the area, they arrive there and find no one only an airfield hime, "it's a trap" cit. I meat the only thing missing was a huge Signborad with "it's a trap send all your plane and wait for surprise attack" written on it. Also they attacked that base to destroy enemy carrier why they don't send some scout to find them?. They were also aware that their communication code were deciphered by the enemy, a thing that will make everyone more cautious when attacking the enemy.
For those who don't know operation MI was made to capture midway island and if enemy CV showed up to destroy them too(not to directly attack enemy CV), the carrier group send all their plane with land attack gear against midway island leaving the japanese CV unprotected, US CV where on their way to protect midway and took the occassion to surprise attack and destroy japanese CV. Japanese knew that enemy carrier could show up anytime but took the risk and launched the attack.
Still to me the writer left behind some hint that made me believe in a sort of twist (in a positive way) in the next episode. First about the unit sent to operation AL, Nachi had a chase with some order I believe they where to change course and direct to base MI to help the first carrier squad. Second the two shadow behind yamato, clearly shoukaku and zuikaku, I think they will probably show up and zuikaku will come out with something like 5th carrier division is good as 1st carrier division. The last is the obscured Shipgirl on the cliff, wich any say it's Taihou. I think that probably next episode will begin with fubuki, that in the end of EP 11 realized something was off, intercepting the bomb directed to akagi and start fighting, at this point yamato and nachi fleet will show up one after another helping the main group in defeating the abssal fleet (probably taihou show up too) winning the battle.
One last thing no one see kitakami die, you just see some explosion, so until they say so she is still not dead, seriously how many time you think someone is dead in an anime or game and than they show up again? think about liquid snake in metal gear solid.
