My opinion, uh? Escort carriers have been announced in a magazine some time ago, it's mentioned in the update page too, we can be pretty much confident that it's just a matter of time before we will get those ships.
I'm not sure about how they're going to work, protection and speed place them below the worst light carrier in game, the number of planes will probably be somewhat higher than what they carried given what they did with most light carriers.
In terms of equipment I expect them to come with ASW torpedo bombers, the Tenzan 931 Kokutai or possibly something new.
