READ HERE (troubleshooting for dummies)Edit
One of the main reasons why people get error messages without ever being able to get into the game but still get redirected into a DMM error area is that they have neither tried the cookie method nor the VPN method as mentioned in Tutorial:_Proxy_Connection
When you have successfully inserted the region cookie as specified in the Tutorial:_Proxy_Connection, you will see the Kancolle game as accessible under the netgame section on DMM's website as shown on the second screenshot of the gallery and highlighted in a red rectangle within the last screenshot of the gallery. You can also safely ignore all the learn English stuff or the love story stuff that appears as a suggestion for foreigners.
Note: With the use of a VPN connection to the game, especially with a Japanese VPN server, the latter two screenshots should not be relevant as DMM will identify you as Japanese via the IP address.
Is the game actually in maintenance?Edit
- Check dev twitter for announcements.
- Its' best to also check Recent Updates for the maintenance schedules.
- The DMM Platform may occasionally perform their own maintenance/downtimes which, at times, prompt game servers to close as well. You may check this on the Recent Updates page, developer's official twitter account, DMM's twitter account, or DMM's info page.
- In some cases, the DMM platform might go down, but not the Kancolle servers. If this happens, players who aren't already in the game cannot log in (Unless you have an existing API Link), while players who are in the game beforehand can play as normal.
Is your computer clock set on the correct local time and timezone?Edit
This is one of the most common causes of CatBombs
- You do not need to be set on the JP timezone! As long as you are on your local timezone and have the correct local time, you are fine.
- Unless it is before/after a maintenance or if you are trying to register a new account, then a clock with Japanese timezone (UTC+9) will help.
- If you did have a wrong computer clock, it will invalidate your current API link. Fix your clock and get a new API link from DMM.
Internet connection problemsEdit
This is also one of the most common causes of CatBombs
- Have you tried checking other sites since it could be your internet connection?
- Some ISP network may cause API error regularly.
- Have you tried synchronising your computer time with a network time server online? Or tried manually synchronising?
- Proceed to section Common Connectivity Solutions.
Sometimes corrupted cache causes infinite loading and other problems such as CatBombs whenever you visit a specific part or parts of the game.
- Try to clear your cache (Cached images and files). Upon successfully clearing your cache and thus the constant CatBomb, whenever you visit the same part of the game, you will notice that the game runs slower than before. This is normal because you have cleared your cache because the browser needs to download those game assets again.
- Try doing the whole process again including logging in to DMM and Cookie method in Incognito or Private mode.
Are you using the latest Flash Player?Edit
Try to check for updates
- Chrome/KC3(改) users no longer need to check this as Google Chrome uses its own flashplayer.
- IE/KCV users go here and select your Windows OS
- Firefox users may also need to follow the same steps above for IE/KCV. Otherwise, for those using freshwrapper (pepper flash wrapper), you may want to check if yours is up-to-date.
- StandAlone FlashPlayer users go here and look for the "Flash Player projector"
- IE/KCV users that are on Windows 8.1/10 Flash Player updates are provided via Windows Update. Check for updates via Windows Update or go here (Windows 8.1 Only) and look for the section titled "Update Internet Explorer to the latest version of Flash Player" and select 32/64 bit depending on your system. Chances are your system is mostly likely 64 Bit to check go to computer or this pc and select system properties and under system it should say "System Type 32-Bit or 64 Bit Operating System" then Select the right option either 32/64 Bit after checking and Check for updates again via Windows Update to make sure.
Problem loading Flash PlayerEdit
Make sure your browser and/or browser plugins allows flash player to be loaded
- Chrome and Chromium-based browser users may need to explicitly allow flash player to be loaded
- Go to chrome://plugins/ and ensure that "Adobe Flash Player" is "Always allowed to run"
- Some browser plugin may prevent flash content to be loaded properly
- Usual suspects are ad-blockers (Adblock, etc.), script injectors (Tampermonkey, etc.) and download managers (IDM, etc). Try disable them
Problems with API LinksEdit
CatBombs may also be caused by expired API links
- Have you tried logging in again on DMM to get a new API link?
- Were you using viewers? Try logging in normally on your browser and playing on DMM.
Game Server ProblemsEdit
Sometimes, it's not your fault and the server you're in is really having problems of its own
- Check the Staff Twitter if there are announcements
- Ask server-mates if they're also experiencing problems
- If you encounter this situation, don't refresh too often to help reduce the server load.
Are you on Windows 8?Edit
There has been reports of CatBombs on Win8, which were fixed once they updated to 8.1
- Try updating to 8.1
Are you a new player trying to enter the game via the newest server?
- Just set your timezone to GMT+9 (Asia/Tokyo), refresh, then click on the server
- Right after selecting the last server, you may change back to local timezone

Login on DMM and check
- Banned accounts will see the cat error on API link, and black message on DMM
- The following will be presented within the game frame (where normally the flash game would be shown)

Common Connectivity SolutionsEdit
- Restart your Router
- If you're at home on your own internet connection, try to restart the router first and see if it helps.
- Use a network cable to tether your computer to the router or the nearest connected network switch/hub/etc that is connected to your router.
- Wireless networking does not necessarily mean your connection is always as stable as using wired connection.
- Make sure that the network cable is in good working order - a poor or worn cable can potentially create more issues.
- Stop using VPN
- If you had been using VPN, try disconnecting a use Cookie Method (Proxy Connection Option 3).
- When using VPN all your network transfers go through another person or system - which is why you connect to it, to be seen as someone from their country. This is sometimes slow, unreliable and with alot of people connected, cannot handle everyone.
- Use VPN
- If you weren't using VPN, then try to connect to one. Sometimes the problem lies with the ISP's route to the game servers. A line between you and the game servers may be broken (can be tested via tracert). Thus, if you use VPN, you may avoid this broken line, because as mentioned VPNs re-routes you to another person or system.
- Observe your router or the device that gives you internet access
- Generally a blinking LED light on the front of the router roughly indicates indicate network activity. The more faster the LED light blinks and/or the shorter the interval the blinking rate (between each blink) may indicate significantly busier network and potentially your internet connectivity.
- Check your computer for any malwares/viruses/etc
- A common oversight is assuming your computer is free of malwares/viruses/etc. A bandwidth hogging malware for instance may hog your internet bandwidth and can easily be observed when using tools such as NetLimiter. However, a malware for instance is not necessarily restricted to hogging your internet bandwidth. Some could be designed potentially to create nuisances such as blocking your day to day internet surfing activities which may ultimately affect gaming.
- Contact your ISP
- Well there are times the ISP is really the one to be blamed.
- Provided you have followed all of the steps above and still face issues, you can inform that to your ISP tech support which may accelerate your issue (in the queue) to getting fixed sooner.
- You can also search online to see is there any optical fibre connecting to Japan from your location being damaged, and if that's the case you can't do much on that.
Stuck on black screen with floating shipEdit
- Clear your cache and reload the game
- Proceed to section Common Connectivity Solutions.

- Temporarily change your DNS Servers to 126.96.36.199 alternative DNS Server 188.8.131.52
- Alternatively, register and use OpenDNS
jquery.min.map 404 (Not Found)Edit
This is a known error generated on the DMM website and does not affect the game. If you're getting this error, it is normal and is not the cause of cat bombs you may have.
This is your Ad-Block working at its finest.
This is a common error on Chrome, with its auto-blocking of web assets that has "ad". This does not affect the game and is not the cause of cat bombs you may have.
This is a common error on new versions of Chrome, with it misinterpretation on the .NET Response or long HTML file with many empty lines. As displayed Flash and CSS are chunked this will cause cat bombs. Try to login with Firefox.
"Message from webpage" Dialog BoxEdit
This is caused by a connection error to the DMM servers, not to the Kancolle servers. Usually you can click Cancel in the dialog box and continue playing, though be warned that seeing this dialog box is generally an indication of an unstable Internet connection.
Cat bomb error codeEdit
In some software like Electric Observer and poi browser, it is possible to find out why you get a catbomb. They are indicated as error code, and here are some known error code:
- 201: Connection shut by server
- 502: Network error ?
- 100: Time unmatch or token expire ?
"Game Start" requires a stable connection. The API call at the game start button screen requires a stable connection for it will download nearly ~700-800kb of text and a small connection interference will give you cat error screen. This is also true for the HomePort Screen, which is now larger.The Game start API call is now only around 130kb, and home port is dynamic in size based on your ship list but will not exceed 20kb. Unless you have a very slow connection, the tip above may be negligible.
- You cannot ping the KC servers, so the way to test if the server(s) is up or not is to visit http://www.downforeveryoneorjustme.com.
- Networking is by no means a small topic and can be very difficult to diagnose - sometimes the issue is beyond one's reach. However, knowing even the basic concepts of networking doesn't hurt. A WIP (Work In Progress) blog entry may be worthy for reading.
- If you are getting constant catbomb errors within a day, chances are you probably examined to see whether or not if you are a bot. For more information, you may wish to refer to this link by LaForet on himeuta.org. Alternatively, a copy of the information is available below should the site be inaccessible for whatever reason. Do note that the information may be slightly outdated but there are points that are worth noting.
I've been watching the ban situation for a while and I have summed up what we already know:
- Will not IP-ban anybody, however a number of Tor / VPNGate exit nodes are barred from logging in (Error B-001)
- If many users were seen egressing from the same IP address they may be asked to reset their passwords as a precaution, however there is zero evidence that this may lead to a ban.
- The only way for an average user to get banned is to owe them money, e.g. file a charge back on a previous CC payment and your account will be banned in no time.
- A banned DMM account will no longer be associated with your email address - hence it would appear to have disappeared entirely.
- It is usually possible to get unbanned by contacting support - they will ask you to pay the amount due by a direct bank deposit in Japan, as long as this can be done your account will be reinstated and you won't lose any data and/or purchases.
- IP-ban is active for IP ranges containing known spam/DDoS hosts. The actual extent of ban is specific for each game server. One can easily check for this by typing the IP address into any browser - if successful you should be able to see a single line of text. ICMP pings have been disabled earlier this year.
- No authentication apart from the API token, hence it is possible to move on and off VPN connections and still play fine.
- During events they may temporarily IP-ban high traffic hosts, however there is no evidence of repercussions for end users apart from a temporary inability to play.
- Will ban users for botting. Detection is done via at least two hidden functions in the flash client, as well as heuristics, e.g. sending 200+ expeditions per day.
- Recently a number of users have been hit with repeated catbombs, analysis of network traffic shows that the errors are actually sent deliberately by the game server. The cause is unknown but it is suspected to be a bot detection mechanism. In any case it usually subsides after 2-3 days.
- Banned users will see "Account Suspended" notification when accessing this game.
- Contacting support usually won't get you a reply. That said, they do reinstate some banned accounts once in a blue moon.
- Kancolle ban does not affect the status of your DMM account.
- As of 13th September 2016, more light has been shed on accounts that are to be suspended (i.e. literal ban from KC). If you are getting error code 201 and/or you receive API error (KC3 Kai) on your account, speculations note that your account is awaiting to be suspended.
